Parks & Recreation Commission
The Guilford County Parks & Recreation Commission was formed after the voters of Guilford County approved a $12 million parks and recreation facilities bond referendum in 1988. The Parks & Recreation Commission is made up of 16 citizens and is charged with the mission of:
-
Acquiring land for park development.
-
Constructing greenway trails.
-
Developing rural recreational facilities.
The Commission has guided the acquisition and development of seven regional parks with a total of 2,300 acres preserved for active recreation and natural areas/open space in Guilford County. Guilford County voters approved an additional $10 million in bond funds in May 2000 and another $20 million in November 2004 for continued development of the County park system and the preservation of natural areas for the public.
